A new album and April news // Un nouvel album et des nouvelles d'avril

cette newsletter est remplie de nouvelles et de sorties !
Commençons par le plus important : vendredi dernier, j'ai sorti mon premier album solo "One Shard at a Time" (disponible à l'écoute ici).
Cet album explore les thèmes de l'auto-destruction, de l'isolement, de l'obsession et du souvenir. C'est une collection de morceaux cassés, qui parlent de faire le deuil du passé et d'accepter de lâcher prise.
En ce qui concerne mes influences, j'ai été inspirée très tôt dans le processus de composition par les vibrations mélancoliques du groupe de rock britannique Anathema ainsi que par Marillion. J'ai aussi pris quelques légères touches de la lourdeur plus crue de groupes de post rock/metal tels que Khoma et quelques teintes plus sombres de black metal.
Je suis aussi très sensible aux atmosphères islandaises/scandinaves de groupes de rock et de post-rock tels que Mammút, Eivør, Agent Fresco, Sigur Rós... et apparemment cela s'entend, car plusieurs personnes m'ont fait des retours comme quoi ma musique leur rappelait certaines sonorités de Björk - une grande artiste que je n'écoute pas particulièrement, mais qui a évidemment influencé les artistes que j'ai précédemment cités.

Un autre aspect de cet album qui est important pour moi est la dimension visuelle. J'ai travaillé sur l'artwork pour aller avec la musique et le concept de l'album. J'ai expérimenté en faisant des monoprints sur papier en utilisant de l'encre et l'une de mes vieilles cymbales. Une cymbale fendue pour créer des fragments visuels.... l’idée m’a plue. Avec ce processus, j'ai obtenu des formes un peu mystérieuses et colorées avec une vibration étonnement organique, grâce aux veines créées lors du contact entre l'encre et le métal de la cymbale.
J'ai designé le packaging du CD et un livret de 12 pages qui contient les paroles, six œuvres et une magnifique photographie prise par Justine Darmon (allez voir son travail). Le CD est disponible via Bandcamp, et si vous y achetez la version numérique de l'album, vous obtiendrez en bonus la version PDF du livret.
Enfin, j'ai sorti un vidéo clip pour le morceau "Shadows Running", basé sur cet artwork. Vous pouvez le regarder sur ma chaîne Youtube.
Et pour la suite ? J'ai plein de choses en réserve !
Je travaille sur de la musique live et sur un nouveau video clip, et je fais des expérimentations pour de l'upcycling de vêtements pour créer mon propre merch. Et j'ai quelques projets d'art visuels qui avancent bien en parallèle, que je publierai un peu plus tard dans l'année.

this newsletter comes in packed with news and releases!
First things first: last Friday I released my first solo album "One Shard at a Time" (you can listen to it here).
This album explores themes of self-destruction, isolation, obsession and remembrance.It is a collection of broken pieces about grieving the past and accepting to let it go.
In regards with influences, I was very early on inspired in the writing process by the melancholic british rock vibrations of Anathema and Marillion. I also took some light touches from the raw heaviness of post rock/metal bands like Khoma and some darker shades of black metal.
I'm also very sensitive to the icelandic /scandinavian vibes from rock and post-rock bands such as Mammút, Eivør, Agent Fresco, Sigur Rós... and apparently it shows, as several folks commented to me that my music reminded them of some of Björk's sounds - a great artist who I don't listen to specifically, but has of course influenced the artists I mentionned above.
So, if you happen to like these bands, you might find that my album is your jam!

Another important aspect to me in this album is the visual dimension. I've worked on the artwork to go along the music and the album concept. I experimented with using ink and an old cymbal of mine to make monoprints on paper. A broken cymbal to create visuels shards... I liked the idea. With this process, I got mysterious colored shapes with a surprinsigly organic vibe, due to the veins created by the contact between the ink and the metal of the cymbal.
I designed the CD packaging and a 12-page booklet which contains the lyrics, six artworks and a beautiful photograph taken by Justine Darmon (check out her work). The CD is available on Bandcamp, and if you buy the digital version of the album there, you'll also get the PDF version of the booklet with the art.
Lastly, I released an Art Video for the track "Shadows Running", based on this artwork. You can watch it on Youtube.
What's next?
I've got many things in store! I’m working on live music and a new video clip, and I'm doing experiments with upcycling cloths to create my own merch. And I've got a couple of visual projects I'm working on in parallel, that I'm going to release later this year.
